My Cat is Missing: Urban Hiding Spots
A lost cat in the city doesn't run away; it hides. Learn where to look to find them quickly near your home.
FELINE BEHAVIOUR
A terrified cat can remain prostrate for several days without responding to its name, even if it sees or hears you. It is in ‘survival’ mode. Do not be discouraged if initial searches are futile.
1. Where do they hide first?
Unlike dogs, cats seek immediate shelter as soon as they are afraid. In the city, hiding places are infinite but often predictable.

Why search at night?
At night, urban noise drops drastically. Your cat, a crepuscular animal, will feel safer coming out of its hiding place or responding to your calls. Bring a powerful flashlight: the reflection of its eyes will help you spot it.
2. Repeated Call Technique
This is the most effective method for ‘unblocking’ a prostrate cat.
Use a soft, familiar voice. Do not shout. Shake their kibble bag or use a squeaky toy they love.
How long to persevere?
Some cats only emerge from their silence after 3 or 4 days. Repeat your calling rounds every evening at regular times. Consistency creates a reassuring point of reference for the animal.
